Pique and Shakira have been together since 2011 after they met just before the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Shakira, however, wants out of the relationship according to Spanish website Cotilleo. “It’s something serious and she has been the one who has finally made the decision,” a source told the website.
The report quoted another source who said the pop star ‘could no longer cope with the situation.’
There have also been speculations over the couple’s relationship in the Colombian press. Shakira is from Colombia.
The defender and the singer were last seen publicly together in June at the wedding of Barcelona star Lionel Messi to his long-time partner Antonella Roccuzzo.
The reason for their reported split is not yet known.
Pique 30, has four-year-old Milan and two-year-old Sasha with Shakira, 40.
It’s been a turbulent week for Pique who was at the centre of the controversial referendum on Catalan independence.
The defender voted on Sunday, October 1 before Spanish police crackdown left hundreds of Catalan voters needing medical attention.
Since then Pique has been very vocal with his criticism of the Spanish government which made him the target of jeers from Spanish fans in Spain’s 3-0 win over Albania on Friday, September 6.
